Do they talk to each other or what?

A month ago, my microwave stopped working. We have a boy to thank for that; I suspect it has something to do with yanking on the door and pushing the release button simultaneously. I found a shaky replacement at a local secondhand store which will get us by until we've recovered from the water heater fiasco (which is still not resolved, by the way, but is another blog entry entitled "just a dumb girl"). Yesterday one of the boys brought me the vaccuum cleaner and showed me how the piece, which raises and lowers the brush, doesn't work anymore. I don't know what I'm going to do about that yet. Buy lower floors?

Tonight the dryer stopped drying clothes. As in running, but no hot air.

So within the last month it's been the microwave, the vaccuum cleaner, the water heater, and now the dryer.

Did I forget a to invite a god to the party when I was cooking up my monthly sacrifice? Is someone upset because I forgot to tell them thank you for something? Please, just let me know and I'll rectify the situation.

Oh, I remember a time like that! It was like every appliance I owned suddenly received a terminal diagnosis. At one point, I found myself saying, "The only thing that does not suck around here is the vacuum."

The appliance gods will get over their displeasure at some point. This too, shall pass. Until then, I feel for ya!

I'm sure it will, but meanwhile what a pain. Meanwhile, hauling six people's worth of laundry to the laundromat is not my idea of fun.

I think I'll sacrifice an extra toaster this month . . .

Many years (decades) ago, when I was a school boy, my teacher digressed from his lesson to tell us (his class:
"Boys, electricty doesn't like certain people and if you're one of those people, when you grow up you'll live in house where the appliances won't work or will stop working for no reason."

The class laughed, except for me and a couple of others --electricity had already started to hate us.

David,

I loved your comment. It very much feels like the beginning of a story.
