Scotty is doing something fun over on his blog.

The idea is is: Look up page 123 in your nearest book, look for the fifth sentence, then post the three sentences that follow that fifth sentence on page 123.

Okay, so I sit and work in one of three places. One is the office. The other is in the livingroom with a laptop (The office is cold in the winter). The last is in my bedroom.

For once, my desk is clean and all the books are on their shelves. The nearest books on my left is a row of teacher's manuals, not exactly exciting material. On the right and further away is a bookshelf full of poetry books, writing how tos, oft-read well used dog training manuals (Note how I avoided the phrase "Dog eared"), and, on the bottom, a row of very dusty cookbooks. I rolled my chair over to the shelf and snatched up the first book on the top shelf. It just happened to be Norton's Anthology. This is from "Soote Season" by Thomas Wyatt.

Nor Flanders cheer letteth not my sight to deem
Of black and white, nor taketh my wit away
With beastliness, they beasts do so esteem.

In the livingroom, the bookshelves are across the room on either side of the television stand, but I'm reading "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Bradbury to the boys.

Tonight. The carnival. Music the nephew said, that must be heard, rides that must be ridden. Stay away from the maze where summer slept. Swim around the carousel where summer, sweet as clover, honey grass, and wild mint, kept its lovely time.

I'm also reading a Repairman Jack novel by Paul Wilson, but I'll give that miss. It's just dialogue and not even fun dialogue.

As for the bedroom, Scotty's already beaten me to the "Australian Treasury of Popular Verse" and its next nearest contender is the book my husband is reading on religious apologetics. I think I'll give that a miss as well unless someone out there is just dying to debate the existence of God.

Sometime you might enjoy adding "The Ahriman Gate: Some Gates Should Not Be Opened" to your list of reads!
