First Pour

So while I've been editing Willows Blood and writing query letters (and not enough of those) and gardening and schooling kids and not really keeping house but more hanging on its ankles begging it not to leave me behind, I've also been exploring a new interest.

I've always loved scented candles, but when money's tight, that's among the first luxuries to get cut from shopping lists. It never occurred to me that I could make my own.

Candle making got my attention back at Christmas when I decorated some pillar candles as gifts. After the holidays, I did some research and discovered that there was an entire sub-cult made up of people who use words used in new and interesting ways. Phrases like: relief holes and cold pour and jump lines , stutter marks, burn pool and (one of my favorites) luminaria. I decided that any art form with such lovely usable results and a vocabulary that cool had to be worth trying.

Today I did my first pour using something called palm oil.

This is the results.

Cool! What sent did you use? Or was that the Palm Oil? I'm not an initiate! (Like you couldn't tell.)

Nice. Gotta love a scented candle or three around the home - I get mine from here.

PW--The scent was called "sooth". Frankly, I didn't think it was all that strong, but maybe that was the point. Palm oil is the kind of wax I used to make the candle itself. :)

Scotty--Those are very nice, Scotty. I saw a couple of colors I really liked. (The orange one called "well being" under Aromatherapy was pretty).

Now all I've got to do is talk Dennis Bryant (Hi Dennis!) into sharing the wax from his bee hives and I'm set. :)
