Flu/Cold/Something

I've been sick for a couple of days--not felt well for a week, actually, but finally succumbed to it Thursday evening. The symptoms are a hybrid of cold and flu type stuff. Since it crept up on me so slowly I don't think it's the flu, but it certainly feels lousier than a standard cold.

So, needless to say, I'm behind and am not likely to make the 50,000 word goal by the end of the month (I'm just past 23,000 now). Though I've gotten a thousand here and five hundred there, sitting in front of the computer has not appealed much. I did get a couple of thousand words written this morning (in between trying to catch up on loads of wash). I think I'll wait to reread them. They seemed brilliant at the time, but when the Theraflu wears off, I may not feel the same way.

Meanwhile, while I've been down, I got caught up on House, Heroes, and Ghost Hunters, as well as a few old sci-fi movies. But I think I'm pretty well TV-ed out now.

I've also discovered a mystery writer that I really like by the name of James Doss, the author of the Charlie Moon Mysteries. Check out the chapter excerpt. The writer does a good job of balancing good writing against humor, mystery, and some well handled supernatural undertones (I adore Charlie's sometimes con artist, sometimes shamanic Aunt Daisy).

As for now, I'm headed back to bed.

Oh I do hope you recover well soon - and I had to have a little giggle on the writing influenced by flu medicine - it may well be the best you've ever written?

Sometimes I read over some of the stuff I wrote in my 20s and think "huh?"

Eeeee-yow. You know, Mary, it does not seem to matter where I am at in bloggyland, the creeping crud is there. Hope you get better before the holiday, my friend.

Hope you're feeling better soon, Mary - something that might brighten you up is news that a gecko is on its way to you...

:-)

I'm still afraid to look, Jeanie. :)
